NEW THIS YEAR: Conference Performances & Performing Arts Competition Options

This year, in addition to Conference Performances, LIA has opened a new competition category: The Performing Arts Competition! Whether you choose to compete or just perform for fun, we hope to see you show off your talent during the LIA Conference.

  • This option is the same as in years past: students can perform a dance, song, musical number, or other performance just for fun during the LIA Conference.
  • No prizes or recognition are given beyond the opportunity to perform onstage or during lunch at conference.

  • This brand new competition category will allow students to compete for a prize during conference when they perform their dance, song, musical number,  etc.
  • A first place prize will be awarded to the winning group. Competition prize awards are subject to location and availability.

  • All participants must be currently enrolled in an LIA class.
  • Any songs included in the performance must not contain expletives or any sexual content.
  • Performances have a maximum length of 3 (three) minutes. Submissions longer than 3 minutes will not be considered.

What to Perform:

  • Dance performance: Outfits must adhere to the LIA dress code.
  • Musical performances may be in English and/or Spanish, and may be of a student or students performing using their voices and/or instruments.
  • Instrumental performances are welcomed (piano, violin, flute, guitar, trumpet, etc).
  • Other types of performances, such as “Slam Poems”, or monologues, are also welcomed.

How to Submit Your Video and Music:

  • Upload an UNLISTED video to your YouTube account.
  • Share the link to your unlisted video when you submit your application.
  • If you have any music that will play during your performance, you will need to upload it as an mp4 file when you submit your application.
  • Have a friend or teacher double check that your link works! LIA is not responsible for submissions that cannot be viewed.
  • If you’re not sure how to upload an Unlisted YouTube Video, ask a friend or check out How to Upload an Unlisted Youtube Video or ¿Cómo Subir un Video No Listado a YouTube? for additional help.
  • Need more time? Make sure to submit at least the basics of your performance by the January 31st deadline. You can submit your final performance video submission by February 18th.

Judging Criteria:

  • Stage presence, excitement, and enthusiasm.
  • Delivery and quality of the performance.
  • Cultural and emotional connection.
  • Style and appearance.
